Creating a range session

A range session represents a single visit to the range. It is the container for everything you shoot that day: groups, ungrouped shots, handloads, and factory ammo. You create the session first, then add shot data from inside it.

Creating a session

Go to Range in the nav and tap New Session. Only the date is required. All other fields are optional:

  • Session name: a short label if you want one, for example "Elk season zero" or "100yd load dev". If you leave it blank, the session is identified by date and location.
  • Time: toggle "Set time" if you want to record the time of day alongside the date.
  • Location: the range or field location.
  • Notes: anything session-level that doesn't belong on a specific group.

After saving, the app takes you directly to the session detail page where you can start logging groups and shots.

Environmental conditions

The session form also includes optional environmental fields: temperature (°F), wind speed (mph), wind direction (compass), and a free-text wind notes field for anything not captured by the structured fields, for example "calm, light crosswind."

These fields are optional on every plan. On Pro, environmental data feeds into the conditions correlation chart in Analytics, which plots group size against temperature and wind across sessions for a given caliber.

What a session contains

From the session detail page you can log two types of data: groups and ungrouped shots. Both can draw from handload batches or factory ammo inventory. See Logging groups and Ungrouped shots for how each works.

Navigating to a session

The Range page lists your sessions in reverse date order. Tap any session to open it. Session totals (groups logged, rounds fired) are shown in the list so you can find the right session without opening each one.

Deleting a session

The delete button appears in the session list on the Range page, next to the edit button for each row. Tapping it opens a prompt with three options.

  • Delete and restore inventory: removes the session and adds all rounds back to inventory. Every group and ungrouped shot record in the session that was linked to an ammo lot has its round count restored. Use this when the session was logged by mistake and the rounds were never actually fired.
  • Delete only: removes the session without touching inventory. Use this when the session happened and the rounds were fired, but you want to remove the record for any reason.
  • Cancel: closes the prompt and leaves everything unchanged.

"Delete only" exists as a deliberate choice because there are valid reasons to delete a session record without returning the rounds: duplicate entries, test sessions, or any case where the shots were genuinely fired and inventory should reflect that.

Regardless of which option you choose, deleting a session permanently removes all shot log data recorded against it. This removes those rounds from recipe analytics (total shots fired) and from firearm rounds fired counts. If the session contained data you want to preserve in analytics, do not delete it.
