Logging groups

A group is a set of shots fired at a specific distance with a specific ammo source during a range session. It is the primary unit of range data in Loadatum: distance, shot count, group size, and optionally a firearm and chronograph readings all live on the group. Rounds are deducted from inventory when you save.

Adding a group to a session

Open a range session and tap Add Group. The form opens a modal. Start by selecting the caliber, which filters the ammo list to matching inventory. Distance and shot count prefill from the last group you logged in that session, so you don't have to re-enter them on every string.

Selecting your ammo

With inventory tracking enabled, the ammo selector shows all inventory with rounds remaining for the selected caliber. Handload batches appear as batch identifier and recipe name. Factory ammo appears as brand, name, and remaining count. Select one and proceed.

With inventory tracking disabled, you choose an ammo source type instead: a handload batch (reference only, searchable by identifier or recipe name), a factory ammo catalog entry, or a recipe name. No inventory is touched in this mode.

Distance, shots, and group size

Distance is required and entered in yards. Shot count is required. Group size in inches is optional: enter the extreme spread of the group if you measured it. There is also an optional short description field (for example, "cold bore" or "string 2 of 3") and a notes field for anything else.

Firearm Pro

Pro users see a firearm selector in the group form, filtered to firearms that match the ammo caliber. Tagging a group with a firearm lets you see how a specific load performs in a specific gun over time: the recipe detail page shows average group size broken down per firearm, so you can compare the same load across different guns. The firearm's own analytics page tracks session history and velocity consistency across everything you've shot through it. If you select a firearm whose caliber does not match the ammo, the save is blocked with a caliber mismatch error.

What happens on save

When inventory is enabled, the app deducts the shot count from the selected ammo's rounds remaining. Deleting a group restores the rounds to inventory.

Target photos

Each group row has an Upload photo button. Tap it to open the photo modal and attach a target photo to that group. Click the upload area or drag and drop a file onto it. Accepted formats are JPEG, PNG, and WebP.

Once you select a file, a preview appears with a square crop box. Drag the box to reposition the crop, or drag any corner handle to resize it. The crop is applied when you tap Upload, and the stored photo is always square. Photos are also resized to 1920 pixels wide after cropping.

Uploading a second photo for the same group replaces the existing one. Deleting a group permanently deletes its photo.

Free accounts can store up to 10 target photos total across all sessions. Pro accounts have no limit.
